Adventure is out there….

Welcome! Most of the trips you’ll read about here, were taken with less than a weeks’ notice and created incredible memories. Working in the travel industry meant traveling when the urge hit us, and there were open seats on an airplane! All of the first night’s hotel reservations were made at 10,000k feet when the Wi-Fi turned on. This may sound absolutely impossible for those of you who plan each detail of a trip months in advance, but this was our groove. We’ve learned to embrace the adventure and enjoy the ride! This type of travel is obviously not for everyone, but we urge you to say “YES!” to ANY idea you have, and let the journey unfold. Let’s GO!

TRIPS AND ADVENTURES

Tubingen, Germany

We stumbled upon Tubingen on a trip to Germany several years ago. While riding on a train, a stranger recommended we give this village a try. And we were so glad we did! We literally took his recommendation and got off the train a few stops later to see if we could find a place to stay….

Hotel DOMIZIL Tubingen is where we landed, and it was a wonderful spot on the river that we’d definitely recommend. Great beds, wonderful cafe, excellent staff, and a beautiful garden terrace. Walking distance to the train and all the sites of this cool little city. Explore the nooks and crannies of this village for a weekend. Don’t forget to take the crazy rafter climb through the top of the cathedral (where this picture was taken) in the center of town. When you travel without an itinerary, you’ll find amazing adventures.

Melay, France

Welcome to Melay, France. A village that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Life here is slow….and sweet. Here you’ll find a delightful B & B, Le Voila , with an outdoor dining garden in the summer and a cozy, fireside dining room for colder winter months. Whenever you get a chance to visit, be prepared to be refreshed and relax in the quiet of this little gem.

Versailles, France

Versailles is one of the places we visit frequently. My sister lives here with her family, and has for 25 years, so visiting is a treat. We’ve explored the ins and outs of the city at a level only an insider can experience and have to say it’s always fun to be in Versailles. Walk the gardens in all kinds of weather or simply take in the magnificent food and culture of this magical city.

Dublin, Ireland

On a whim, and with seats available on an airplane, off to Dublin we went! Visiting in late April was perfect timing. We did of course, prepare for daily rain, but spring had sprung, and the country was in full bloom. The people we experienced were a friendly and fun group…

We stayed the first night in Dublin at Stautons on the Green which we highly recommend. With its central location, secret garden in the rear, and excellent staff, it made for a pleasant stay. Since we had no other reservations, we discussed with the hotel manager a possible itinerary for the remainder of our trip. Where we stayed next has become one of our favorite places….Powerscourt Estate and Gardens in Enniskerry. An absolutely beautiful place to relax and enjoy 3 or more days. With its wide open spaces, hikes, bikes, golf, spa, beautiful gardens and distillery everyone can find their favorite activity. Don’t miss this place! And it’s all just 30 minutes outside of Dublin. Be sure to eat at Bull & Castle for an incredible meal in Dublin.

Hohenzollern Castle, Germany

The owners of this castle say the view is worth the journey to this castle and we’d whole heartly agree! We been to many places in Germany, but this is one of our favorite castles so far. Far from the commercialism of Neuschwanstein, this castle is magnificent in every way. This castle is a short train ride from Tubingen, in the city of Burg, so is an easy day trip. burg-hohenzollern.com

Montreux, Switzerland

Montreux is a beautiful place. We recommend staying at the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic Autograph collection and pay a little extra to get a room that overlooks the Lac Leman. Coffee in the morning sitting on your own little balcony is magic!

Day trips from this location must include a visit to the thermal baths! Les Bains de Lavery is an ideal spot to spend 3 hours relaxing in the steaming mineral waters while taking in views of the Alps!

Hood River, Oregon

On our way to Bend, Oregon we had the pleasure to stop in Hood River Oregon. Kite surfing lessons on the river was the goal! The men all kite surfed, but we also enjoyed e-biking, and the amazing views.

  • A day trip we enjoyed included a hike at Multnomah falls. Crazy beautiful and quite the workout to hike to the top.

Southern Italy

A recent girlfriends getaway led us all over Italy. We spent days in Rome, Florence, Greve, Bari, Monopoli, and Alberobello. A whirlwind trip for sure, but a total blast! Highly recommend! In Monopoli be sure to stay at Palazzo Indelli.

Beginning in Florence, then to Bari by train, we saw a lot of Italy! In southern Italy we rented a car and spent two lovely nights in the magical city of Monopoli and did a day trip to Alberobello. We ended our last day at the beach, which was a perfect ending to a day spent driving the back roads.
Retuning to Rome for 2 nights, we were then on to Greve for an amazing day spent touring, eating, and tasting at a local winery. We finished the night with a concert. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Recommended quirky adventures: Rent bikes with Fat Tire Tours in Rome. It’s a great way to see all the highlights of Rome in 2 hours.
